FTLO 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training

What to know before you enroll

Designed for curious practitioners and future instructors, this training refines your personal practice while teaching you how to guide others with clarity and care. We focus on accessible sequencing, functional alignment, breath and nervous-system awareness, and the art of simple, effective cues. You’ll practice-teach from day one in a supportive circle and leave with practical tools to create classes that feel good in real bodies—whether you keep deepening your journey or step onto the teacher path.


Prerequisites

  • Practice experience: ~6–12 months of regular yoga (any style).

  • Health & safety: You can participate in light–moderate physical activity. Disclose injuries/pregnancy and get medical clearance if needed.

  • Language: Training delivered in English (German support available).

  • Mindset: Curiosity, respect, punctuality, willingness to receive/give feedback.

  • Consent for assists: You’ll choose your preference; consent is re-checkable anytime.

Who This is For

  • Practitioners who want to deepen their personal practice and/or learn to teach with clarity, care, and inclusivity.

  • Friendly to mixed levels; consistent practice helps.

Time Commitment

  • Contact hours: 200 hrs (weekends +).

  • Independent study: 20–40 hrs (reading, journaling, practice/observation).

  • Attendance: Aim for 100%. Up to 8 hours may be made up via:

    • Assigned homework/private tutorial (make-up fee may apply), or approved class observations/assists. Absences beyond this require deferral to a future cohort.


Certificate Requirements

  • Practice & teaching labs: Active participation.

  • Assessments:

    • Teach a 15–20 min segment (midterm).

    • Lead a 60-min community class (final practicum).

    • Short written/reflection assignments and a simple anatomy/ethics quiz.

  • Professional conduct: Adhere to FTLO’s code of ethics & inclusivity guidelines.

  • Must complete the Anatomy course.

What You’ll Learn (High-Level)


1. Foundations: Breath mechanics, nervous-system awareness, functional alignment.

2. Sequencing: Build accessible, well-paced classes for mixed levels.

3. Cueing: Clear, inclusive language; demo skills; options & props.

4. Anatomy: Joints/muscles in motion, common injuries, red flags.

5 . Ethics & scope: Boundaries, consent, cultural sensitivity.

6. Teaching skills: Voice, space holding, incorporating musc, feedback loops.

7. Adaptations: Prenatal-aware choices; beginners & diverse bodies.

8. Business basics: Class planning, rates, community building.

The Details

    • Yoga mat/props; if needed, outside of what is provided at the studio.

    • Notebook/journal + pens/highlighter (you’ll journal each module).

    • Water bottle & light sweater (studio can be cool at rest).

    • Phone or tablet for photos/notes (on silent).

    • Manual: FTLO Training Manual (provided at start).

    • Anatomy kit (optional but helpful): Will be covered during Anatomy course.

    Need props? You can buy or borrow at FTLO (limited stock).

    • The Heart of Yoga – T.K.V. Desikachar (practice/philosophy framework)

    • Yoga Anatomy – Leslie Kaminoff & Amy Matthews (functional alignment)

    • The Yoga Sutras of Patañjali (accessible commentary—e.g., Chip Hartranft or Swami Satchidananda)

    • (Optional) Teaching Yoga – Mark Stephens (practical reference)

    • 2–3 short readings + a 7-day home-practice log

    • Observe 2 public classes (any studio/online) and submit brief notes

    • Write a one-page intent statement (why you’re here)

  • Aim for 2–3 classes/week (studio or home).
    Log your practice (we provide a simple template).

Meet Your Teachers

  • Eva is a physiotherapist with 20 years of experience and advanced training in APPI Pilates, Medical Hatha Yoga, and Yin Yoga. She specializes in small-group prevention courses and corporate health programs, bringing anatomy-led, mindful, and holistic movement into every class.

    At FTLO, Eva shares her deep knowledge with clarity and passion in our Yoga/Pilates Teacher Training.

  • Kari Zabel brings over two decades of experience to our FTLO Yoga Teacher Training. An Advanced Certified Jivamukti Teacher, Kari studied directly with the method’s founders, Sharon Gannon and David Life, and has since taught classes, workshops, retreats, and teacher trainings across the U.S., Asia, Latin America, and Europe.

    She is a Senior Teacher at Jivamukti Yoga Centers Munich and is frequently featured in Yoga Journal Germany as the model for the 108 Asana Finder.
    Kari is known for her uplifting energy, heartfelt teaching style, and imaginative sequencing, inspiring students to live with more joy, presence, and purpose.

    Trained in Ayurveda and certified in nutrition, Kari also supports students in cultivating better sleep, balanced energy, mental clarity, and overall well-being.

    We are honored to have Kari guide our Yoga Teacher Training at FTLO, where her expertise and warmth create a transformative learning experience.
